Nikon D810 review

High image quality.

Good focusing system.

Good Dynamic Range.

Why I bought Nikon D810, short story.

I simply love the D810, I decided to upgrade my Nikon D7000 and buy Nikon D810 and it was a huge step upwards at that time and exactly what I was looking for.

I bought my D7000 in December 2011, and I still have and use it alongside my Nikon D810 which I bought in January 2015.

To make a long story short, when I bought my D7000 it was really good for everything that I was doing back then, after some time using the Nikon D7000 I started to need more sharpness and more quality in my pictures (I like to edit my photos a lot in PS and LR) something was missing, my plan was to buy a new pro-level camera, I almost bought D4s but I decided to buy the Nikon D810 instead and I don’t regret that decision, after three years of using the Nikon D810 the camera is still surprising me with high-quality pictures, at least I’m not having the same doubt of needing a better camera just yet, the Nikon D810 is perfect for my ad the moment.

You are going to need a big external hard drive.

My ISO limit with Nikon D810 is about ISO 3200, I personally do not want to go higher than that.

This video down below is an ISO test that I did with Nikon D810 mainly for curiosity.

Image Quality / Raw data.

Nikon D810 delivers high images quality, I like to use NEF (RAW) 14-bit Uncompressed.

NEF (RAW) 14-bit Image size.

NEF (RAW)  14-bit Lossless compressed File size 41.4 MB.

NEF (RAW)  14-bit Compressed File size 35.5 MB.

NEF (RAW) 14-bit Uncompressed File size 74.1 MB.

NEF (RAW) 12-bit Image size.

NEF (RAW)  12-bit Lossless compressed File size 31.1 MB.

NEF (RAW)  12-bit Compressed File size 28.5 MB.

NEF (RAW)  12-bit Uncompressed File size 56.1 MB.

TIFF (RGB) Image size.

TIFF (RGB) Image File size 103 MB.

There are a lot more size priority options in the D810 like JPEG – NEF/JPEG and NEF + JPEG I haven’t shoot JPEG since 2011 so I’m not gonna talk about that here now.

Just for fun comparison my old D7000 Image Quality / Raw data.

NEF (RAW) 14-bit Lossless Compressed File size 19.2 MB.

And the raw data from Nikon D700.

NEF (RAW) 14-bit Uncompressed File size 24.1 MB.

TIFF (RGB) Image size from Nikon D700.

TIFF (RGB) Image File size 35.1 MB.

Backup Camera.

Nikon D810 so good that I have bought Nikon D700 FX camera with lower megapixel to use for myself (not professionally) I’m gonna save the Nikon D810 a little bit and use it for professional work for a moment, I’m one of those photographers that take pictures of almost anything when I’m doing something for my self, even though I will never use the photos for other than a family album – facebook or just testing lenses and the Nikon D810 is just too powerful for that.
